چکیده
this prospective longitudinal study deals with the associations between digital disorders and reproduction indices in dairy cattle on a farm in the vicinity of tehran. it was carried out on 225 postparturient holstein heifers. the evaluation of lameness due to digital disorders on postpartum period of heifers were done and after diagnosis of lameness (based on a 5 points lameness scoring system), the digital lesions and reproduction data of lame cows were recorded in a pre-established questionnaire and comparison with reproduction indices of other healthy heifers were made statistically using chi square and student “t” tests and the relative risk “r.r.” for each of indices was calculated and 95% confidence interval was made. seventy-six cows among 225 cows were diagnosed lame in the period of study (30 months). digital dermatitis (28.9%) and sole ulcer (21.2%) were the most prevalent lesions. all reproduction indices in this study including projected minimum average days open, days to first service, projected minimum calving interval, days in milk, services per pregnancy for all cows, services per pregnancy for pregnant cows, conception rate at first service and overall conception rate were found significantly different between lame and control groups (p

Nutrition and Reproduction in Modern Dairy Cows
Genetic improvement programs have done a great job selecting animals with superior genetics for milk production. Selection with emphasis on milk production is generally recognized as the single most important objective of breeding programs in dairy cattle worldwide. As a result of this improvement, the dairy cow has changed significantly over the past 7 decades with a remarkable increase in mil...

The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between prepartum feeding behavior, measured as time spent feeding per day, and periparturient health disorders, milk yield, milk composition, and milk somatic cell count in Jersey cows. Pregnant Jersey cows were marked with unique alphanumeric symbols and were moved into a prepartum group 4 weeks prior to their expected calving da...

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between early lactation curve parameters andcalving interval in Holstein cows of Iran. In order to describe the lactation curve, the incomplete gammafunction was fitted to 5,754,428 test-day milk records corresponding to 766,108 lactations on 315,634 cowsin 2,448 herds. Cows with higher milk yield during early lactation had shorter calv...

Lactatingdairy cows (n=177) fed with grass and corn silage ad libitum kept in pasture, were randomly assigned to evaluate how urea nitrogen in plasma and milk can be related to their pregnancy rate. Blood and milk samples were collected on the artificial insemination (AI) day to evaluate plasma urea nitrogen (PUN) and milk urea nitrogen (MUN) as well as progesterone levels, excluding cows with ...
متن کاملThe association between herd- and cow- level factors and somatic cell count of Irish dairy cows
Somatic cell count (SCC) is an indicator of both udder health and milk quality and is measured at an animal level through national milk recording schemes. The objective of this study was to assess the animal and herd factors contributing to elevated SCC (i.e. poorer milk quality). Test day records (n = 2,658,928) from 519,456 cow lactations obtained between 2007 and 2011 were included in the an...
